Our Projects

1. Support to improve livelihoods of rural smallholder beekeepers especially women and youth by building up climate change resilience through landscape scale conservation approach 2022.

The goal of Phase II of the Forest and Farm Facility (FFF) is to support forest and farm producers and their organizations to be primary change agents of ‘Climate Resilient Landscapes and Improved Livelihoods.’ These producers are key players in reducing poverty and significant contributors for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to fight climate change as part of the Paris agreement. With its unique focus on FFPOs as vital agents for change, Phase II will contribute to at least 11 of 17 SDGs through focused work to achieve:

Outcome 1: More enabling policy and legal frameworks for FFPOs delivered through more FFPO-inclusive governance and cross-sectoral processes (SDG 16 & 17).

Outcome 2: Increased entrepreneurship, access to markets and finance through gender equitable value chains delivered through new capacity to provide business incubation within FFPOs (SDG 1, 5, 8 & 12).

Outcome 3: Improved delivery of landscape scale mitigation, adaptation and climate resilience for climate change through direct engagement of FFPOs and integration with inclusive livelihood approaches (SDG 2, 13 & 15).

Outcome 4: Improved and equitable access to social and cultural services (SDG 3 & 10).

Objective: To Support to improve livelihoods of rural smallholder beekeepers especially women and youth by building up climate change resilience through landscape scale conservation approach

Output 1.  A clear advocacy strategy with clear agendas representing beekeepers interest developed

Output 2. Cross-sectoral, multi-stakeholder policy processes strengthened with better representation from beekeepers

Output 3. Api-Support deliver business skills and services to her members

Output 4. Beekeepers have improved access to business, marketing and financial services for improve livelihoods.

Output 5. Beekeeper’s groups contribution in climate and landscape level programs has increased the outreach of these programs

Output 6. Beekeeper’s groups have mainstreamed climate change into their plans and operations

Output 7. Beekeepers have in place Social, cultural and communication systems to provide social, communication and cultural services (targeting women, youth and other vulnerable members)

Output 8. Beekeepers links its social and cultural development agenda to national SDG process and other governmental development processes

2. EFFECTIVE ADVOCACY TO ADDRESS TRADE OBSTACLES INTHE APIARY SECTOR, 2021 – 2025.

Objective: Enhance the capacity of Tanzanian apiary sector actors to advocate for business interests and trade policies, including the removal of trade barriers, to improve the trade environment.

 

The export sector in Tanzania, as in many least developed countries (LDCs), is hindered by non-tariff barriers (NTBs) and by procedural barriers, in particular. Procedural barriers take the forms of lengthy cross-border procedures, inefficiencies in transport and logistics, and excessive costliness of export procedures. Api Support in collaboration with ITC identified export related trade barriers, prioritize the most stringent ones to address, understand their root causes and develop evidence-based recommendations with a view to influencing national policies to address the identified obstacles.

Api Support successfully identified Trade barriers, prepared document on National Trade barrier under beekeeping sector, Prepared National Positions Papers and conducted PPD for the reforms

3. DEVELOPING AND MANAGE NATIONAL BEEKEEPING PLATFORM KNOWN AS NYUKI FORUM, 2025

Primary Objective: The primary intention of developing Nyuki Forum is to share information from the beekeeping activities, success stories, networking beekeeping stakeholders, sharing problems encountered while practicing beekeeping in different aspects and how to solve them.The targeted forum is expected to enhance sharing of information on various aspects including:

  • Marketing linkages
  • Knowledge, skills and learning Beekeeping best practices
  • Networking and collaboration
  • Investment practices and opportunities
  • Business practices and opportunities
  • Information of all beekeeping knowledge stakeholders in the country
  • E – Commerce
  • Advertisement

4. Introduction of Beekeeping and Market Access (2010–2013)

Objective:
To introduce and promote sustainable beekeeping practices among forest-dependent communities, enhance honey production and quality, and improve market access for bee products.

Key Outputs:

  • Community members trained in modern beekeeping techniques
  • Provision of modern hives and basic processing equipment
  • Support in honey processing and packaging
  • Establishment of market linkages for honey sales
  • Strengthened community engagement in forest conservation through income generation

5. Research on Bee Product Diversification (2014)

Objective:
To assess the potential for diversifying bee products and identify viable value addition opportunities that could enhance rural incomes.

Key Outputs:

  • Conducted a field – based study on current bee products and potential alternatives
  • Identified market opportunities for diversified bee products (e.g., beeswax, propolis, pollen)
  • Provided recommendations for future interventions targeting value addition and product development
  • Highlighted gender and youth opportunities in non – honey bee products

6. HACCP Training and Certification Support (2015–2016)

Objective:
To improve the safety and quality standards of honey and bee products through the adoption of HACCP systems, enabling access to high-value markets.

Key Outputs:

  • Developed a team of local HACCP trainers
  • Conducted HACCP implementation training for honey processors
  • Supported selected enterprises in applying HACCP standards
  • Facilitated successful certification processes for eligible honey processors
  • Improved product quality and compliance with export requirements

 

7. Support to Green Economy in the Biosphere Reserve (2015–2017)

Objective:
To promote sustainable economic activities within the biosphere reserve through improved beekeeping, organizational strengthening, and market access support.

Key Outputs:

  • Baseline survey conducted to understand local livelihoods and environmental context
  • Needs assessment completed to identify gaps and opportunities in the beekeeping sector
  • Delivered training in improved beekeeping practices
  • Supported the formation and strengthening of beekeepers’ cooperatives
  • Enhanced market access through collective marketing and value chain support
  • Contributed to the integration of conservation and income generation within the reserve
